Q: How much do you charge?
A: For manuscript consulting, I charge $8.00 a page. (Based on a 12 point Courier font, double-spaced, 1 inch margins). I ask for 50% up front and 50% upon completion of work. For hourly sessions, I charge $90/hour.
Q: What do I get for the money?
A: For manuscript consulting, a thorough page by page evaluation (which includes basic line editing and in-manuscript Track Changes comments), a 3-6 page written analysis of the overall story elements, and a one-on-one in person or over-the-phone one hour session to review everything and answer questions that arise. For hourly sessions, concentration on your particular story issues.
Q: Do you work with all genres?
A: Yes, I have consulted novelists, playwrights, screenwriters, nonfiction and memoir writers. I apply story techniques to help every type of writer improve their work.
Q: How does the process of working with you begin?
A: For manuscript consulting, you email or send 5 sample pages of your project – just to give me an initial sense of your work. Then we will have a free 1/2 hour phone conversation in which I answer specific questions you may have about my process and I let you know how I can help you. If you and I both agree, we move forward from there.
Q: How long does it take?
A: For manuscript consulting, usually around two weeks for the entire process.
Q: Do I need to send you an entire manuscript?
A: No, some of my clients have benefitted from sending me a partial manuscript and then either completing or rewriting the rest of their work based on the consultation.
Q: Is there a minimum number of pages I need to send?
A: Yes. With either a whole manuscript or a partial, there is a 100 page minimum.
Q: Will you provide references?
A: Yes, upon request. You should also check the testimonials page for comments from some of my past clients.
